How to use a computer as a TV and watch stations

In exchange for HDTV broadcast television now you have more channels to watch. It has become interesting again. But the new TVs are expensive. You can not buy a television esconĂ³mica for your office or kitchen. Smaller TVs cost about the same as a big one. However, you can get a TV tuner card or USB device from your computer, allowing you to watch TV anywhere.

  1. Think about where and how you want to watch TV on your computer before you buy a tuner. Just like a regular TV, you need a cable or digital antenna, which in turn needs a place with good reception. It makes no sense to buy the antenna and tuner to a location that can not be used. A TV tuner can also take a lot of processing power, so if you'll see on a laptop, you will notice that you will have heat while you're watching. You'll want to think about air circulation and you will not want the computer on your lap.

  2. Check the specifications before buying. You can not watch TV on your computer if the tuner card or USB device does not work with your system. It is also a good idea to check the consumer reviews on various sites. Even if you do not buy the device online, you will find customer reviews of HDTV tuner cards and USB HDTV tuners retail sites like Amazon.com.

  3. Decide whether you want a card that goes inside your computer, or a USB device. The card will have a greater effort to settle, but once it's there, will be in place and out of the way. However, you may not have a card available at all for your laptop. A USB device is usually cheaper and faster, but not as portable as you might think, since some of the companies have a very restrictive with the software.
  4. Once you buy your HDTV tuner, you'll need to install it. A card must be physically installed in your computer by you or someone who knows about technology. A TV tuner high definition only USB plugs into the USB port. Either they will come with coaxial cable port to which you connect the antenna or cable, like a television. Both internal card and external USB tuner also come with software that you need to install. This software not only lets you watch TV in a window, but usually also allows you to record video on your hard drive, just like a TiVo. As mentioned before, this software has a strict copy protection on it. Be sure to have on hand the serial number and it is always best to install while you are connected to Internet.

  5. Consider buying an amplified antenna. If you do not have cable, you have to worry about receiving. Depending on your location, you may find a lot of channels to watch TV on your computer or you can get only a few. An amplified antenna that increases the signal can help you get more channels of HDTV.
