What are the major cities of California?
California has a population of over 36 million -the highest of the country and is the third largest state, according to the US Census 2010. With months of sunny weather, and still home to many theme parks and attractions, California is visited by millions of domestic and foreign tourists every year. The state's major cities include Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Sacramento.
The Los Angels
In 2010, the city of Los Angeles had an estimated population of over 3.7 million people population. Los Angeles is the entertainment capital of the world, home to the major film studios like Walt Disney, DreamWorks, MGM, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox and Universal Pictures. The major theme parks like Disneyland, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Universal Studios Hollywood and Raging Waters, are also in the area of Los Angeles. Film production, tourism and hospitality, in addition to digital information technology are the main sectors of employment in the city. Los Angeles is also the center of the country's largest production, and more than 389,300 workers were employed in this industry in 2009, according to the Economic Development Corporation of Los Angeles County.
San Diego
Association of Governments of San Diego estimated 2010 population of the city was 1.37 million, the second largest city in California and the eighth largest in the United States. Located about 120 miles (193.1 km) south of Los Angeles, San Diego has attractions like the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World and Legoland. It is also home to the Balboa Park, one of the largest cultural park in the US, with 15 museums and art galleries. San Diego industries include telecommunications, biotechnology, electronics and software, and 41 percent of workers over 25 have a bachelor's degree. In 2006, Money magazine ranked the city as the fifth best place to live.
San Francisco
San Francisco's population was estimated at 805,000, according to the US Census in 2010, making it the fourth most populous city in California and an increase of 3 percent since 2000. Located on the San Francisco peninsula leading to the Pacific Ocean, the city is famous for attractions such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf. This city is also known for its cable cars, its sloping hills and neighborhoods, including Pacific Heights, Chinatown and Nob Hill. As a thriving business and technology center, San Francisco has many software development companies, and its proximity to Silicon Valley attracts global investors and high technology.
Sacrament
Sacramento, founded in 1849, is the capital of California, and the oldest incorporated city in the state. According to the US Census Bureau, the city had an estimated population 1.4 million in 2009. Its attractions include the Old Town Sacramento, the Sacramento Marina, Sacramento Zoo and Fairytale Town, built a vast playground which has more than 25 sets lullabies inspired and classic fairy tales. The city's largest employer is the government and the transportation industry, especially with regard to railway transport. Agriculture is also an economic factor in the Sacramento Valley, where fruit, vegetables and rice are grown.
